Bamboo wizard - Master of Sequence
Baboom is a Belgium Agency and has its origins in the Brazilian jungle. In 2008 Jan Detavernier moved to Brazil in order to run an ecological building cooperative together with some friends. This social initiative sought after sustainable poverty reduction through the education of local groups in making bamboo structures. They built a community centre and a school, constructed entirely out of bamboo. (www.bamboostic.be)
During Jan his stay in the magical Brazilian jungle, his connection with nature and passion for bamboo grew, a plant with extreme properties and fascinating features. As an engineer, he decided to take a different course and he integrated more and more organic form language of nature in his designs. His inspiring structures arise from the connection of his form finding and the revealing of the wonderfull complexity in nature. The structural analysis and the bamboos are self-explanatory connected in the natural aesthetics of his spatial experiments.
It emerged Baboom, a studio specializing in decoration and installations with natural materials; a reciprocity between craftsmanship and innovation in technique and materials with a extensive expertise in bamboo applications.
Design conceived as an interaction, Jan brings ideas and concepts into a single story. This results in designs where experiences and their meanings are central. Sensation and imagination go hand in hand with his sculptures.
Belevingsontwerper
Baboom kent zijn oorsprong in de Braziliaanse jungle. In 2008 vertrok Jan Detavernier naar Brazilië om er samen met enkele vrienden een ecologische bouwcoöperatie te runnen. Dit sociaal initiatief streefde duurzame armoedebestrijding na door het onderrichten van lokale gemeenschap in het maken van bamboe constructies. Ze bouwden er onder meer een gemeenschapscentrum en een school, volledig opgetrokken uit bamboe.(www.bamboostic.be)
Tijdens Jans verblijf in de magische Braziliaanse jungle groeide zijn connectie met de natuur en zijn passie voor bamboe, een plant met extreme eigenschappen en fascinerende kenmerken. Als ingenieur besloot hij een andere koers te nemen en integreerde hij meer en meer de organische vormtaal van de natuur in zijn ontwerpen. Zijn inspirerende structuren vloeien voort uit de connectie van zijn ruimte-denken en de onthulling van de wonderlijke complexiteit in de natuur. De structuurontwikkelingen en de bamboes zijn onmiskenbaar met elkaar verbonden.
Uit dit alles ontstond Baboom, een atelier gespecialiseerd in installaties en decoratie met natuurlijke materialen, ambachtelijk vervaardigd, en met een uitgebreide expertise in bamboe-toepassingen.
Als belevingsontwerper brengt Jan ideeën en concepten samen tot één verhaal. Dit resulteert in ontwerpen waar ervaringen en hun betekenis centraal staan. Gewaarwording en fantasie gaan hand in hand bij zijn ontwerpen.
